PR and Press Release Tips for Your Business

PR is one of the best things to use to expand your business. Why? It’s free publicity which is pretty awesome. Blogs, newspapers and the like always wanted a new story or something interesting that they can tell their readers. If you can give it to them, they’ll love you for it. So in this video and article, I will give you some tips on how to do that.

  1. How to get a story. You have to realize that online blogs and online newspapers, which majority of the newspapers have online portion, have infinite space for making money and infinite space for advertisements. These newspapers make money per thousand impressions.
  2. Use fake email accounts. You can try to email the newspaper company through a fake email saying “Hey, have you heard about this company (whatever the name of your company is),” and that will probably make them interested.
  3. Get the journalist on the phone. A lot people wanted to just sit back and relax and everything via email which is pretty easier, but if you will have a journalist over the phone, you have a much higher chance of actually being able to get them to write an article about you.
  4. Make it specific and time constrained whenever you wanted an article to be written.
  5. Do the 3-Act Structure, popularized by Shakespeare. You can start from the beginning, like how the world was or how things were before your company existed; then at the middle, tell a story of what your company offers, and what you’re exactly doing. And finally – the utopia you’re creating, what s right now and what happened after.

Also, tell the journalist you will share the article – if they will take time to write about your site, why not return the favor and tell them you will share it on your site or promote it on Facebook.  These journalists wanted to have as much traffic on their blogs as possible too. And Think about what’s newsworthy about what you’re doing, tell the blogger a cool stuff on your site, and they can make a good story out of it.

On top of that, make it about the news, not you. Maybe it’s not about you, or probably you’re just a part of it. Think about how you can do this in your industry. And lastly, keep trying. You will surely get a lot of push backs, resistance, people may not respond to you, just keep on sending them emails until they notice you or until they tell you to stop. Be respectful obviously, but if the first time you shoot them an email and they don’t respond, just keep on trying.

Email PR Tips

Good subject lines are very important and my important tip in having good subject line is by asking questions. Have a question that will really pick someone’s curiosity. Never forget to include an email because that will really make them interested and get hooked. And, keep it short. These people get a lot of email every day, and if they don’t really know you, they will surely think that it’s a waste of time. If you will follow these steps, for sure that will hook reporters to reading your email making them interested about you.

After the Story

A lot of people think that after the story’s being published or written, everything’s done, it’s the end of it, which is not true. What you can do after the story is being published, is you can fake comments to win most commented. A lot of blogs or online site has a section there about stories with the most comments, of course, you wanted the article about you to be the on top of that list, so never be afraid in creating fake comments in the article. On top of that, keep the winners close. Make sure to keep a good relationship with people who write and blogs about what you’re doing. That way, it will make them write for you again in the future, most especially if you follow these tips and the articles goes very well.  Another thing you can do is get a small site to post a story and build up from there. You can let the newspaper writers know about a blog that’s posting about your niche and let them realize that their people wanted to hear or read about it. And lastly, send them traffic by doing that, they will surely love you and that’s a big possibility that they will feature you again.

For the last helpful tips, there are tons actually, but I’m trying to compress them.

HARO (Help a Reporter Out) – it connects journalists to sources. It is an incredibly valuable and helpful tool for any promotional campaign which will be a very big help for you and your site.

Moreover, you can also do Press Releases and it will help you get articles.  Lastly, find magazines that work for you. Magazines that are interested writing about you and your business.
