7 Content Marketing Ideas for Your Online Business

In this video I am going to share seven ideas for your content marketing strategy. All seven of these ideas are ideas you could implement in article form, in video form, or whatever you want to do. After I have shared all seven with you, we are going to dive into each one individually and talk about them at length on how you can implement them. Number 1 is a Buyer’s Guide. I think this is one of the best ones because basically you are telling your potential visitors, “This is the thing that you should be buying on my website.” Number 2 is a Roundup Post. This is very powerful, has a very high likelihood of going viral. Number 3 is a How to & DIY Guide. This is great stuff as well. I use this a lot on B Dancewear. This could be used on YouTube or a lot of different platforms very well. Next up is Behind the Scenes. This is something that I do not use a lot but it is another idea that could be implemented very well. Number five is Entertainment & Humor. This is classic. It is one of the most common marketing ideas. Number 6 is Checklist & Tools. We will get into detail as to why this is so powerful later on. Number 7 is Spotlight Marketing. This is absolutely my favorite one. It works just miracles. I will explain why later.

1. Buyer’s Guide
So, number one is the Buyer’s Guide. This can be used I a lot of different ways. But, basically you can get people who are searching for a certain product. For instance, searching for what headphones they should purchase. This is an example right here, actually. “What headphones should I buy?” Well, you could write an article about that. They come to your website and they think, ‘Well, I should buy this type of headphones.” The cool thing about this is that you get to decide what headphones are numbers 1, 2, or 3. If you want to, you can put your item that has the highest profit margin as number 1. Now, that is not the most ethical thing to do, I recognize that. I recommend that you be honest and answer this question honestly. But I know that at least when I am searching for something that I want to buy, I am going to Google and ask, “What are the best headphones? Or, “What is the best camera for filming YouTube videos,” which I found out is the – check this out – T5I at least for what I have going on. If you are interested in my camera, click up here for more information. After that, you can help people decide what they are going to buy. So, there is a lot of SEO potential for this one. I think this is one of the most powerful marketing ideas out of this whole list especially for converting people into actually buying. So, if you have an ecommerce store, definitely consider doing some Buyer’s Guides.
2. Roundup Posts
Next up is the Roundup Post. This is actually an example of a Roundup Post that I was a part of. In this Roundup Post, they basically asked me what are my thoughts on Black Friday or what are some good marketing techniques for the upcoming Black Friday. So I shared some of my thoughts. So, what you get to do is get the opportunity to highlight Influencers. When you highlight Influencers, you are creating a connection with them and leveraging their sharing potential as well. So, imagine if you went to your niche and you asked them “What are your ideas on . . .” whatever this topic is. You are going to get 10 to 12 people that are experts in the field answering and once they are done, they are highly likely to want to share that article with other people. It can go viral pretty easily. Talking about the need to create connections – The really important part of this idea is that you are going to create connections with these Influencers. These people at etail, I do not even know what they do. But, if they ask me if I like their podcast, I would probably say yes. But, if they had asked me that before they had asked me to do a Roundup Post, I probably would have said no. I do not think they have done an extremely good job at creating a connection with me, but at the same time, I think there is potential. So, if you want to create a connection with Influencers, this might be a good way to start.
3. How to & DIY Guides
How to & DIY Guides are other powerful marketing ideas. One of the cool things about them is that you can actually use your products in these guides. For instance, you can create DIY projects that use your products. What I mean by that is – For instance, at my company, B Dancewear, we have dance clothes. We sell basic dance clothing pieces. We do not sell the full on costume. We sell the shorts and the top, etc. With the DIY Guide is we show them how to take out tops and bottoms and turn them into amazing dance costumes. This has so much value and one of the things it does is it lets them know that they can save money by buying from us. They can actually do some really cool and elaborate things when they buy from us. But, also it lets them know that we are experts in the field. It lets them know that we know what we are talking about when it comes to dance clothing. People love this and it is great for social media. People get all hyped up and they want to share this kind of stuff with other people. “Hey, Susan. This is how you can create a dance costume” and they share it with each other. This is an example of the one we did, How to DIY Your Dance Costume. I think this is the first one I did. It went pretty viral and it is number one in Google now. Because of that I have it in my Pinterest and I have it on YouTube. A big part of our B Dancewear marketing has to do with our DIY Guide and how to take our products and turn them into higher quality dance costumes.
4. Behind the Scenes
The next idea is Behind the Scenes. I am not an expert at this but it is basically giving people a glimpse into your world and what it is like to work in your industry. I might do this with Effective Ecommerce for instance. I might say, “I have an extra camera right here. Show me what it is like to film one of these videos. It is actually a lot harder than you might think. It takes a lot of work. It also helps establish a connection. For instance, if I were to film this video right here, first of all it would be more content for you to look at and second of all, you would establish more of a connection because it humanizes the whole process. You can use this in your ecommerce business as well.
5. Entertainment & Humor
Entertainment & Humor is by far the most popular one. At the same time, it is hard to do on a low budget. It is not impossible. You definitely can do it. A lot of times I would say – It is very effective as well. If you can get people laughing and entertain people, they will want to come back to you. So, it is definitely an idea you could potentially employ. On top of that, it is often done in video form. Just like this is a video right now, a lot of people go to YouTube to watch videos and learn that kind of stuff. So, I think it works better with bigger brands such as McDonalds and companies that have a little bit of money. But, that does not mean that you cannot do it. All that you have to do is spend a little time figuring out how you can make it work for you.
6. Checklists & Tools
Next up is Checklists & Tools. This one works very well. Humans love to use tools. And us humans – If you are watching this, I assume you are human. You know what I am talking about. We all love when we find out about a new tool that is going to help us with whatever. If a guy told you, “Hey, there is this tool that is going to save you an hour a week,” you would be excited. You would be pumped. You would probably go look for it. You can do the same thing with your clients, your customers or potential customers.
Checklists is another one. Packing lists also work really well. I have seen a lot of people use packing lists. This lady sells travel related clothing so what she does is she gives away a checklist – or it is actually a packing list, I guess – basically showing what you need to pack for an upcoming trip. Funny enough, right now, I am about to leave for Africa. So something like this, I would be pumped for. I would definitely sign up if I saw that as a pop up. Speaking of what you can give away and maybe it is a checklist, maybe it is a tool, or whatever it is, those are some ideas right there.
7. Spotlight Marketing
Spotlight Marketing is the last one and is by far my favorite one. See my Google Analytics right there. This is for my blog. All I do on my blog is Spotlight Marketing. You see it is pretty good. I get about 10,000 visitors a month. All we do is Spotlight Marketing. Spotlight Marketing means interviewing my customers. For instance, I interview dance studios and post their article on my page. They share it with their friends and put a link from their website to my website. But, more importantly, for the sake of this video, it gives me content that I can put on my site. I hate writing about dance clothing. I hate writing about anything dance. I do not have to do any writing when I do Spotlight Marketing. The dance studios do all the work for me.
So, if you are interested in Spotlight Marketing, I have another YouTube video about this. Check the link down below to get that video. That’s it.
Thanks for watching this video. Make sure to click Subscribe if you enjoyed it. We have new videos coming up every week about how you can improve your ecommerce store if you are serious about it. Actually, if you are really serious, click up here and get my Online Store Success Pack which is totally free. My Online Store Success Pack, funny enough, includes checklists and marketing ideas. Checklists, as I said earlier, are great. I use checklists when I am trying to design a new website, for instance, or if I am doing consulting. I used to do consulting for people and I actually used a checklist for myself. If I am looking up AdWords, I have my own checklist where I check things off. For instance, do they have their mobile optimum or mobile adjustment bid. Have they changed it have they adjusted it. I actually give away a lot of those checklists for free. All you have to do is click up there to get that.
Lastly, if you have any questions, please leave them below in the Comments section. Every week, actually almost every day, I go through the questions you ask and I answer them right away. Even if you think I do not have the answer, I will find the answer for you as long as it is about eCommerce. I promise.
