Launching a Kickstarter/Online Store in 30 Days – Day 5

This is Day 5 of my 30 Day Challenge to start a successful business. I am going to be using Kickstarter, I am going to put it on Shopify store. I am going to do all of that fun stuff. So, if you have not already watched days 1 through 4, check those out, too. In Day 4, I talked about my marketing idea I have for the Kickstarter of reaching out to Influencers in the health, nutrition, fitness space. So far, I have only been reaching out to people that have podcasts and as of this update, I have actually interviewed a few people which has been great. I have interviewed, I believe, so far three people and I am a little bit nervous about announcing this, but I am extremely excited because the ideal person I could interview on my show just confirmed. He has not come on yet. That will be early to mid-January. Dom D’Agostino who is has been on the Tim Ferriss podcast agreed to come on.

So let me tell you the story about how I got Dom D’Agostino to agree to com on my podcast. He has been on the Tim Ferriss. He has been on a lot of very big podcasts. So for him to come on my podcast is a huge honor. So I am going to be spending hours and hours making sure I have great questions to ask him and making sure we have a good back and forth. My hope is that when I tell him the idea of my product, he likes it. And, obviously, if he likes it, in an ideal world, I could get him, or someone like him, an authority figure to do – it does not have to be a testimonial on the product, but maybe a testimonial of the benefits of the ketogenic diet or healthy fats in my Kickstarter video because that is one of the keys to success for a Kickstarter video is having some kind of authority figure do that. So, that is – I almost did not want to share this, but, whatever. I will just share everything. So, let me tell you the story of how I did that. So far, I have interviewed 3 people. One of them is a really big deal in the ketogenics space, in the healthy fats space, diets space – Jimmy Moore. I was shocked when he said he would come on. He was one of the first people to agree to come on and he did it right away. I told him about the idea and he really liked it. We had a really good conversation and it was really fun talking to him. He has great advice and I learned a lot. If you want to check that out, check out the How to do your 20’s podcast, my side podcast and the conversations I have with all of these people that I am interviewing. So, that is the first one.
Then, I had one on another guy. Now, the second guy – once again, we had a really great conversation. He was very good at talking. I did not have to ask him too many questions, he would just go off and tell me all about these subjects. He did not have a big podcast. His podcast only had, I think, 55 reviews, which is tiny. Compare that to some podcasts, like a Tim Ferriss’ podcast had something like 5,000 reviews. So, he was not a huge person to land. But, when I told him about my idea, first of all, he loved it. It turns out he lives down the road from me so we will probably meet up at some point. I will probably get his feedback on flavors, you know, and marketing ideas. So that was really cool. On top of that, I told him that I wanted to have Dom D’Agostino on the podcast. He said, “Yeah, man” – actually, I think I told him that I would like to have him on a Kickstarter video and he said, “Well, you should get him on your podcast.” I said, “That would be amazing.” Then, he told me that he actually knows Dom D’Agostino. Dom D’Agostino went on this guy’s podcast. So, he ended up helping to connect us. So, to me the big moral of this story is that even if someone seems like they have a small blog or a small following, it is still worth networking. I think his is going to be the best hour of my time as far as marketing goes is spending it interviewing these people and developing relationships. Then they can introduce you to other people and so on and so forth. Hopefully, by the time my product toes live, I will have enough connections – not all of them are going to like my product and I totally understand that and that is cool. But some of them are going to love it.. Some of them are going to think this is the perfect product. I am trying to tell this to the demographic of the health of the health nutrition people.
So, anyway, I kind of want to wrap this one up. I will keep this one a little bit shorter. My point is, if you want to reach out to Influencers, instead of asking them to do something for you, have them come on your podcast. Promote them. What I tell them is – and I do not even tell them how big my following is. It is kind of a win-win situation. They get exposure to my audience and in a way they are doing me a little bit of a favor by coming on the show but I am also doing them a favor by having them on the show. So, there is this kind of mutual respect going on.
