How to Use Custom Audiences and Audience Insights

In this video, I am going to talk about audiences, how to create an audience and also audience insights. Basically, I am going to show you how to create an audience and there are several different ways you can do that. Then, I am going to show you how powerful audience insights are when you are looking for a future particular target and you are looking for what makes people similar. For instance, one thing I am about to do is I am going to upload my customer list and then I am going to look at audience insights.

So, I already have a customer list from a little while ago, but I am going to do a fresh one. Normally you would not have to do that. You could just add to the existing list. But, for the purposes of this video, I am going to create a new one. So, I am going to create a new Custom Audience. Then create a new Custom File. Choose a File or Copy and Paste This Data and choose Email. Go to a File and – Actually, check Copy. It is pretty big so I am going to Copy and Paste.  So, here are my files. I am not going to share too much. I need to go to another screen for the purposes of this. What I am doing, I am doing both the phone number and the email address. You can see their phone number.

I am only going to show the first 20. There are actually around 8,000 or 9,000. Do phone number and email. So, it is uploading. So far, 3,955 rows have been uploaded. Then we have 7,960 and now 9,463.  Then Lookalike Audience. Now, what a Lookalike Audience does is basically –Actually, let’s see – So, let’s do that now. Choose, Create a Lookalike Audience. Then go the Source. It is presently Untitled and I am going to leave it like that. The Country is the United States. Then, select Audience Size. What this does is I can set the size. So I can do 1, 2, 3 – these are all percentages of the country. So, I can do 1 and it is going to look like an audience of two million people.

This one is not already but the other one is ready. Just for quick tidbit. This customer list from Volusion of 4700 people. They only use emails for that list. So, by using both emails and phone numbers, I would get a much bigger customer list.  I am also going to go in and rename this to New Customer List.

Now that we have that, let’s look at Audience Insights. Next, Go to the Assets column and choose Audiences here. If you do not see it here, you can go to Alt Tools. It should be right up in here. So, this one is for Volusion. This is a customer list for Volusion. But instead, let’s use the New Customer List. All right. In the meantime, I do not think it is going to let us use it because it is still pretty new. I will just use the one that I did last time. So, Customer List from Volusion.  So this is a list of all of my customers, or at least a lot of them. I think we saw one of them with 4700 people. So, what we can see there, first off, Gender is 95% women and 5% men. Yeah, that is a pretty big deal. I should probably only be targeting women in my Facebook ads. Not so much on the men’s side. The next thing is the Lifestyle. So, Summit Estates – so these are people living the good life. So what it says is that most of my audience is comprised of Established Elite, Sky Boxes and Suburbans, Lavish Lifestyles. So, as you can see, these the other ones. Career Building is a very small percentage. Corporate Clout is a very small percentage. So, these are the type of lifestyles that I am going after. Relationship Status – most of them are married. Seventy percent of them are married. That is interesting as well. Fifteen percent single. By far, most of them are married. Education Level – most of them are college educated. Community and Social Services – a lot of them have management job titles. That is interesting. So, this shows you how far above the average in the United States. We have a lot more people in Community and Social Services than average. That is way, that is three, two times more than average. So, you see, the gray box – that is standard, average. The blue is my audience. So even though it only comprises 15% of the Community and Social Services. That is way – it is three, two times more than average.

Let’s go to Page Likes. There is not enough information. Location – a lot of the people live in New York. This just gives you an idea of some of the data that you can look at. Household Income - 50 to 75 range is my biggest one by far. So, that’s interesting. 75 to 100 though – We have a lot more than average of those. We have a lot more than average of the 150 to 250, 000. We have a lot more of those. Most of them own a home rather than a rental.  Home Market Values – 200 to 500,000 so it looks like. So there is a lot of data and to give you an idea of the type of people that your audience is comprised of. Obviously, the audience that I am looking at right now is pretty small. You can do other things. You can scrape data from websites. So maybe I would look at a list of different websites. Maybe I would look at a list of different dance studio owners and if I were to scrape up a list of a few thousand, I could plug that data in here and use this to figure out exactly who I should be targeting.

That is it for this video. So we have gone over audiences and how to use these audiences to do Audience Insights. Let me know if you have any questions and I will be happy to answer them.
